Calculation and seasonal boundaries

The Honmei year changes at Risshun rather than January 1. The Getsumei month changes at seasonal boundaries such as Risshun, Keichitsu, and Seimei rather than on the first day of each calendar month.

Hoshiyomi Chaya calculates these boundaries from solar longitude in Japan Standard Time instead of using a fixed February 4 or fixed day of each month. If an unknown birth hour falls on a boundary date, the result shows a note. Methods and emphasis vary among schools, so use this as an entry point for reflection.
