eight moon phases Β· one gentle rhythm
Birth Moon Phase Calculator
Which lunar type welcomed you?
Estimate the Moon's phase on your birthday and explore one of eight lunar rhythms. This is not a fixed personality verdict, but a small moonlit mirror for how you begin, refine, share, release, and rest.
Lunar age and illumination are estimates based on the mean synodic month. Near a phase boundary, your birth time and the actual quarter-phase moment may place you in the neighboring type.
Eight phases as ways to move and rest
There is no strongest or weakest moon. The waxing half suggests beginning, testing, choosing, and refining; the waning half suggests sharing, editing, and resting. Instead of reducing everyone with the same birthday to one personality, this reading gives you one useful verb to carry into the day.
Method and accuracy
The calculator uses the mean synodic month of 29.530589 days described by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. It estimates lunar age around noon in Japan on your birthday from a known new-moon reference, then divides the cycle into eight phases.
Real intervals between lunar phases are not perfectly uniform. For astronomical precision, consult an official almanac. This calculator is an estimate for entertainment and reflection.
Moon phase or Moon sign?
A moon phase describes the illuminated shape created by the changing SunβMoon relationship. A Moon sign describes the zodiac sign occupied by the Moon at birth and normally needs the birth time and place. This page calculates the phase, not the Moon sign.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it without a birth time?
Yes. The date is estimated around noon in Japan. If you were born on a phase-boundary day, the exact time may move the result to the neighboring type.
Is the Moon in the same phase on every birthday?
No. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days and does not align with the length of a year, so the phase on your birthday changes from year to year. This calculator uses your birth year.
Does a birth moon phase determine personality?
No. Personality meanings are astrological and cultural interpretations, not a scientific personality test. Keep only the prompt that feels useful.
